From bath house to modern health club

With focus on holistic health

Life quality in focus

“For beauty, healthiness, and healthcare.” That was the motto when Hagabadet was founded in 1876. Nearly 150 years later, the purpose remains the same, albeit in the form of a modern health club that focuses on quality of life.

It was in the 19th century that an English doctor discovered the connection between good hygiene, clean water, and cholera. Following this discovery, bathhouses began to be built throughout Europe. In Gothenburg, which had been repeatedly devastated by severe cholera epidemics, businessman and parliamentarian Sven Rehnström donated 150,000 kronor for this purpose.

This is the background to Hagabadet, or the Renström Bath and Laundry Institution as it was called then, opening its doors in 1876.

History of Hagabadet

In 1869, Sven Renström donated money to the city of Gothenburg to be used, among other things, for various charitable institutions. One of these became the Renström Bath and Laundry Institution in the working-class district of Haga, which was inaugurated in 1876.

This is Hagabadet today

Hagabadet is not just a gym, training facility, bath, and spa. We are all that and more. We do not build our business on short-term solutions, visible abs, or exciting trends. Our operations rest on a solid foundation of established research in the field of health and a comfortable life, with a passion for balancing the benefits and pleasures for the body, soul, and the joy between people. This means that relaxation is as important as the need for the heart to work, that massage is as essential as muscle training, and that meditation makes the mind more focused when important decisions need to be made.
